Michelle O'Neill is one of Ireland's top football referees at present. After a successful playing career with Adamstown in the Wexford League, she decided to make the move into refereeing in 2008.
She has officiated in the League of Ireland for the last 10 years, and arguably here greatest honour came when she was named the assistant referee for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup final between the USA and Holland in Lyon.
Also that year, she was the assistant referee for the Uefa Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea while the team also combined for a huge England v Germany international friendly at Wembley Stadium.
More history followed for O’Neill as she became the first Irish referee to officiate at the Olympic Games when she did so in Tokyo in 2021.
