Patrick Daly made his name as a highly regarded referee but also for the work he did in the police force.
During his time in the middle, he would take charge of some big games in the League of Ireland, and also a couple of big clashes in European club competitions and also a couple of internationals.
Known by most as Paddy, he was the FAI's international referee's liaison officer for a period of time and the retired detective was in charge of the referee's security during Ireland's infamous clash with England at Lansdowne Road in 1995.
