Paul McGrath was born in Greenford, England on the 4th of December 1959 and was raised in Dublin from a young age.

His playing career started with local clubs Pearse Rovers and Dalkey United before he made the move to League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic.

He spent the majority of his career at Manchester United and then Aston Villa, spending seven years at each storied club in English football.

He won the FA Cup with United in 1985 and two league cups with Villa in 1994 and 1996 while he is one of only six defenders to have won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award (1993).

With Ireland the centre-back won 83 caps and scored eight goals while he also produced some incredible performances - some of the best ever seen by an Irish player - in their two World Cup campaigns in Italia 90 and USA 94.
