Sean McCaffrey was born in Monaghan on the 12th of September 1959 but sadly passed away on the 30th of December 2017 at the age of 58.

McCaffrey had a hugely influential career in Irish football - on both the international and domestic scenes.

He was a key figure in the establishment of Monaghan United before he took charge of the club in their early years in the League of Ireland and also enjoyed a short spell with Dundalk in 2012 - while he was also heavily involved with Oriel Celtic at grassroots level.

However, he will be best remembered for his impact with the Ireland Under 17, U18, and U19 teams over a seven-year period.

During that time, McCaffrey led the U17s to the UEFA U-17 European Championships in 2008.
